This is the second part of the series whereby I am turning the wonderful talks into actionable takeaways you can implement in your business. Yesterday's article was about how to get Big links. This article is looking at Data Driven design by Oli Gardner and how it can lead to more sales and conversions. CTR is a ranking factor

General SEO, SEO Experiments
So I was at Mozcon 2015 when Rand Fishkin did an experiment to test the impact on CTR, and did it work. He got the audience of about 1,500 to click on position 1 and bounce back (negative signals) and then click on position 4 and interact with the site (positive signals). Within about 30 minutes the two websites swapped, from 4th to 1st and 1st fell to 4th and stayed like that for about 2 days. Interesting the company that was in number 1 was Amazon so a huge site. He then repeated this test several times over Twitter…

General SEO
Search Engine Optimisation Google is used for around 90% of all the UK’s search queries. If your website doesn’t rank well in Google, you could be losing out on a lot of business. CTR is a ranking factor – Tested

Content, General SEO, SEO Experiments
We love a good old SEO experiment here at Indago Media, it's not that we don’t trust what Google says – actually it is. So many times over the years and especially recently what Google says contradicts what is actually the case. Whether that is because they don’t actually know themselves what affects rankings in Google or whether they just don’t want to the SEO community to know. I think it’s a bit of both since rankbrain was announced it was basically Google saying we have no idea anymore. Over the last couple of years, there has been talking that…

Only 1 H1 Tag

Content, General SEO, Technical SEO
We recently had a client contact us about doing a technical audit. One of the things we highlighted to them was that they had multiple H1s on a page and the importance of only having 1 H1. Having only one H1 is important. It’s basically the heading of the page. What the page is about. Another way of looking at it as a novel. You only have one title – what the book is about. You might have a sub-heading on the cover of the book – this would be an H2. This should be the same for your web…

Donating to charities for a backlink. Good or Bad?

General SEO
A Twitter user asked John from Google Webmaster tools team whether donating to charity is good for a back link strategy or not. His response was fast and specific.   @brettclimbs It's just a paid link, right? — John ☆.o(≧▽≦)o.☆ (@JohnMu) December 6, 2016 Google doesn’t normally give a straight answer and it does surprise me that people still thinking basically paying for a link are not going to be against Google Guidelines – I would pay attention. There is probably something to come in a future update to discount these links. The original story came from a Medium article…
