Someone ask John Mueller yesterday of Google how they handle null value links.

For example, the link URL is simply a hashtag or pound sign, one of this #.
What should Google do with them? The URL would look like Google says they completely ignore them. Which wasn’t really surprises to hear as I mainly use these for notes when writing an article i.e. add a link here.
I can’t figure out any actual use cases of when you would need to use this on an actual website.
That being said – Google only is talking about null links and not links like indagomedia.co/users#Andy that is a completely separate issue. Google does count these links and actually, these can be seen in the SERPs.
It’s purely empty link tags they ignore.
